If you wish to book a table in the bar or garden, please call 01582 460478.
You can book online for a table in our restaurant.
We thank you for your continued support during these difficult times, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
We have some changes in place, and we ask you to bear with us while our staff get used to a new way of service.
Following government guidelines, our tables are now spaced apart to allow for social distancing, there are many hand sanitisation points in the pub and outside, we have a clear one way system, and a new app for ordering food and drink to your tables. We now operate table service only, no bar service. Our staff will wear face coverings, and we also ask you do too when entering the pub, and moving around the premises and using the toilets.
Tables can be booked by calling to make a reservation. We have a selection of tables inside and outside available for walk ins daily, so don’t worry if you haven’t booked a table in advance and fancy popping in for a pint!
Our outside bar, ‘The Engine Shed’ is still available, and will be open during sunny spells. If it closed, just pop into the bar and you can still grab your take away beer.
Built in 1862/1865, The Engineer was originally called “The Bird in Hand” but has since been known as The Engineer when the railway from London to Bedford was built in 1868.
With a lively and sociable atmosphere, The Engineer boasts a main bar area, dining room, family room suitable for children and dogs, sports bar and large garden and covered smoking area.
We have a wide range of lagers, cask ales, ciders and craft beers on draught. With an extensive wine, gin and spirit list too, we’re sure you’ll find something just for you here at The Engineer.
We have an incredible menu full of lovely dishes including starter sharing boards, a selection of different burgers and homemade pies. Don’t forget to swing by for our Sunday roasts, served with all the trimmings.
