Welcome to The Engineer

Harpenden Hertfordshire

We're sorry to say that, for the time being, we're closing the pub.
Its not goodbye, just farewell for a while.

Pubs are important parts of the community and the original social network. While our doors are closed for now, our Facebook page is still open, so do check in on us now and then.

Thank you for your support now, in the weeks and months to come, and we look forward to when we can welcome you back to our pub again.

Built in 1862/1865, The Engineer was originally called “The Bird in Hand” but has since been known as The Engineer when the railway from London to Bedford was built in 1868.

With a lively and sociable atmosphere, The Engineer boasts a main bar area, function/dining room, family room suitable for children and dogs, sports bar and large garden and smoking area.

We have a wide range of lagers, cask ales, ciders and craft beers on draught. With an extensive wine, gin and spirit list too, we’re sure you’ll find something just for you here at The Engineer.

We have an incredible menu full of lovely dishes including starter sharing boards, a selection of different burgers and homemade pies.  Don’t forget to swing by for our Sunday roasts, served with all the trimmings. Contact us to make a booking to avoid disappointment!
