We thank you for your continued support whilst the pub has been closed, and we look forward to seeing you again.
We have some changes in place, and we ask you to bear with us while our staff get used to a new way of service.
We have also introduced a limited menu. Following government advice, our tables are now spaced apart to allow for social distancing, there are many hand sanitisation points in the pub and outside, we have a clear one way system, and a new app for ordering food and drink to your tables.
Tables can be booked by calling to make a reservation. We have a selection of tables inside and outside available for walk ins daily, so don’t worry if you haven’t booked a table in advance and fancy popping in for a pint!
Our outside bar, ‘The Engine Shed’ is still open Thursday – Sunday for your take away drinks.
Built in 1862/1865, The Engineer was originally called “The Bird in Hand” but has since been known as The Engineer when the railway from London to Bedford was built in 1868.
With a lively and sociable atmosphere, The Engineer boasts a main bar area, dining room, family room suitable for children and dogs, sports bar and large garden and smoking area.
We have a wide range of lagers, cask ales, ciders and craft beers on draught. With an extensive wine, gin and spirit list too, we’re sure you’ll find something just for you here at The Engineer.
We have an incredible menu full of lovely dishes including starter sharing boards, a selection of different burgers and homemade pies. Don’t forget to swing by for our Sunday roasts, served with all the trimmings.
